Iga Swiatek storms into China Open third round with record-breaking win

Top seed Iga Swiatek advanced to the third round of the China Open Saturday with a commanding 6-0, 6-3 victory over home favourite Yuan Yae. The win extended her winning streak in Beijing to six matches and helped her etch another record into the WTA history books.
The reigning Wimbledon champion, who lifted last week’s Korea Open title in Seoul, dropped just three games in her opening-round match, showcasing her trademark power and precision.
Her dominance on the Diamond Court also marked her 34th bagel on the WTA tour, surpassing two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka’s previous record of 33 bagels.
With this milestone, Swiatek now leads all players in bagels since 2009, joining the elite company of Caroline Wozniacki, Simona Halep, and Agnieszka Radwanska.
“I think she was reading the court really well and for sure it wasn’t easy, every game was tight, but I’m happy I could close it,” Swiatek said after the match.
The 22-year-old Pole also became the first player to record 25 or more wins at WTA 1000 tour events for three consecutive seasons. Her momentum on the tour continues to grow and she could contend for taking the World No. 1 spot away from Aryna Sabalenka before the end of the year.
Swiatek will now face Camila Osorio in the round of 32.
