Amanda Anisimova triumphs in Beijing to seal second WTA 1000 title
Amanda Anisimova capped another milestone in her breakout 2025 season Sunday when she defeated Czech rising star Linda Noskova 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 to capture the China Open title and claim her second WTA 1000 trophy of the year.
The 24-year-old American, who was a runner-up at Wimbledon and the US Open this year, overcame a mid-match dip to notch a win in one hour and 46 minutes at the National Tennis Center in Beijing.
The triumph marks Anisimova’s fourth career title and make her the first American since Serena Williams in 2015 to win multiple WTA 1000 events in a single season.
“It’s been an incredible few weeks,” Anisimova said. “I want to congratulate Linda. You’ve been playing amazing and you’re still so young, so I’m sure we’ll have a lot more finals to play in. I’m excited to see you progress and see how your career goes. I’m sure it’ll be really great, so congratulations to you and your team.”
Anisimova opened the final in commanding fashion as she raced through the opening set in 23 minutes. Her powerful groundstrokes and consistent depth left Noskova little room to settle as the World No. 27 managed just 12 points across the opening six games.
But the Czech — appearing in her first WTA 1000 final — responded impressively. After breaking Anisimova’s serve to start the second set, Noskova steadied her baseline game and began dictating more points with some aggressive shots.
She held firm through a tense stretch midway through the set and saved two break points before levelling the match with a clean service hold.
Momentum, however, shifted back swiftly in Anisimova’s favour during the deciding set. The American, who committed 17 unforced errors in the second set, tightened her game and rediscovered her range.
At 3-2, she capitalized on a missed backhand from Noskova to secure the crucial break. She then closed out the match with a flurry of winners — sealing the title with her trademark backhand down the line.
That shot marked her 187th winner of the tournament, which is the second-highest total recorded in a WTA 1000 event this season only behind to Clara Tauson’s 196 in Dubai.
The win in Beijing completes a remarkable stretch for Anisimova, who began the year by winning the Doha title before reaching the Wimbledon and US Open finals. Along the way, she posted victories over some of the game’s greatest and secured her seat at the season-ending WTA Finals in Riyadh.
Anisimova is now one of only three American women, alongside Serena (2004, 2013) and Coco Gauff (2024), to have lifted the China Open trophy.
